The mission of the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Presidential Conference Center is to provide quality facilities and technical support to academic, research, and cultural programs of the Texas A&M University System, the George Bush Library, and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation.

The Internship Program’s mission is to aid in the development, encourage, and engage coaches, mentors, and interns in a supportive environment while providing opportunities for educational experience, growth, and professional development, providing a basic knowledge leading to an expertise within the venue management industry.

INTERN RESPONSIBILITIES:
JOB DESCRIPTION/OVERVIEW:
The PCC’s Internship Program was developed to facilitate the communication and development of industry-related training and experience. The Department is dedicated to promoting the goal of educating an intern through professional development opportunities, increasing awareness throughout the industry, exploring a career interest and allowing for individual and departmental growth.

- Experience meaningful and ongoing interaction with a diverse group of professionals in the industry, at Texas A&M University and other locations.
- Gain real world experience from the PCC staff’s experience and other successful professionals.
- Expand the perspectives on a range of career opportunities.
- Develop confidence through leadership and personal initiative.
- Strengthen resumes by giving students visible work experience and guidance.
- Assist students with educational career development.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE INTERNSHIP:
- Junior or Senior student enrolled at Texas A&M University
- Willingness to work hard and desire to learn and grow
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Basic clerical skills
- Flexible schedule and ability to work nights/weekends
- Time management skills
- Show professionalism while at work, especially when interacting with VIP guests

BENEFITS:
- Partial Pay: Interns are paid $10/hr for up to 20 hours of work per week. Any additional hours are considered volunteer.
- Networking: Supervisors are more than willing to share their professional network with Interns. They will set up calls where you can interview current industry professionals. Also, one has many opportunities to meet individuals during the planning process including vendors, clients and other professionals. Additionally, as an intern, one gets to meet and work with many well-known individuals.
- Ability to attend school and work: The staff is willing to work around one's school schedule and will adjust schedules based on tests and projects.
- Hands-on experience: In many ways, interns are treated as full-time staff members and are given responsibilities that will help one grow personally and professionally.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Client Relations: As an intern, one is given opportunities to interact with clients first-hand. After completing training, interns are given events where they work with a client on an event, from booking the event all the way to final invoicing.
- Event Set-ups: Interns are trained in various set-ups including workshop, boardroom, lecture and banquet.
- Basic Audio/visual Information: Interns are trained to know how to use basic AV equipment including the light and sound boards in each auditorium. One is also trained to do set-ups and tear-downs of AV equipment including video projectors, wireless microphones, and monitors. Additionally, one has the opportunity to learn how to correctly pin lav mics on speakers.
- Vendor Relations: The PCC has to work closely with many outside vendors such as catering companies. As an intern, one learns how to to read contracts, common set-ups according to food ordered, pre-event processes, staff responsibilities, and how to deal with catering when issues arise.
- Facility Management and Procedures: Interns learn about basic facilities policies and procedures, risk management, maintenance and security procedures.
- Human Relations: Interns learn about common HR practices within the company. One opportunity is to learn how the hiring process works.
- Customer Service: Working events and house managing, interns interact with guests and learn to practice good customer service skills.
- Event Management Programs: Interns are trained to work in both EMS (Enterprise Management System) and VISIO.
- Social Media and Marketing: Interns are given opportunities to increase knowledge about social media, as well as, marketing an event venue.
- Effective Management Practices: Interns learn how to be an effective manager by observing and interacting with supervisors.
- Growth: Growth in professionalism and increased communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
